‘New iPad’ incompatible with Smart Covers

A little problem that surfaces earlier this week, shows that the ‘New iPad’ or whatever you’d like to call it, doesn’t retain the lock functionality when used in collaboration with Apple Smart Covers or even third party ones. When Apple announced the New iPad, they mentioned with a certain degree of smugness, that the current iPad Smart Covers were 100% compatible with the latest iteration of the device. However failed to mention that whilst tampering with the innards of the iPad, they changed the magnet’s polarity causing old or third party smart covers to not lock when closing the cover. If you were to buy a smart cover from Apple at the moment, the newest releases of the cover should work with your New iPad, since they seem to have tinkered with the magnets in the last quarter of 2011.

What do you think about this problem? Do you think it will force you to purchase a new smart cover from Apple? Or is the lock functionality not too important to you? I know it isn’t to me. Anyway, feel free to check out my video and see the problem for yourself!
