What's New ?

The Apple iPad 3 - What is New?

Today Apple announced iPad 3, the successor to the most popular tablet in the world. Although Apple just calls it the new iPad (not iPad 3 or iPad 2S or iPad HD), I personally prefer calling it the iPad 3. Rumors and speculations of the new features of iPad 3 has already bored us all. So, I'm getting directly into the product.

Yes, There is a Home Button. :-D

While the iPad display regains its original size, the resolution has been quadrupled.

The iPad 3 will come with a resolution of 2048 x 1536, that is over 3.1 million pixels squeezed into a 9.7 inch display. That will be over a million pixels greater than the standard 1080p resolution.
Apple calls it the retina display although it has only 264ppi (Apple had defined Retina Display as the one having a resolution of 366ppi at the launch of iPhone 4)

Apple explains that iPhone being held at 10 inches from the eyes require a 366ppi for being called a retina display whereas ipad being held at about 15inches, the 264ppi is sufficient.

The new iPad Display also offers a 40% better colour saturation.

iPad 3 runs the A5X processor with quad-core graphics.
Apple claims this to be twice as fast and 4 times better performing than the Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

This will offer a 44% better saturation in the display.

Apple introduces the iSight Camera on the iPad 3.

it will have a 5-megapixel backside illuminated sensor on the back, 5-element lens, IR filter, and ISP built into the A5X chi in addition to Auto-exposure, auto-focus on iPhone 4S.

The camera will be capable of shooting 1080p videos and will be supportd by Video stabilization and noise reduction.

It has been speculated that the iPad 3 wil come with the Voice Assistant Siri, which Apple introduced for the iPhone 4S.
But unfortunately, iPad 3 will have only a Voice Dictation capability built into it.
It will support US English, British, Australian, French, German and Japanese.

Data Connectivity

iPad 3 has 4G LTE capability.
Compared to iPad 2 (3.1Mbps on EV-DO, 7.2 on HSPA), the new iPad has 21Mbps HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA at 42Mbps, with LTE at 73Mbps.

Battery Life

iPad 2 - 10hrs, 9hrs on 3G
iPad 3 - 10hrs, 9hrs on 4G.

iPad 2 - 8.8 mm thin and weighed 1.33lbs
iPad 3 - 9.4mm thick and weigh @ 1.4lbs

So, the next gen iPad is both slightly thicker and heavier than the iPad 2.

Although both weight and thickness of iPad has gone up, there is one thing that hasnt changed (as always) - the Price.
The Apple iPad range still begins at $499 for the WiFi Only 16GB model.
 $499 for 16GB, 32GB is $599 and 64GB for $699 - Wifi Only Versions

 For 4G, it's $629, $729 and $829 correspondingly.

The pre-order for the iPad 3 starts Today.!!
It will be available at the stores on 16th March.
